By the end of the program, you’ll have developed knowledge and practical skills across clinical nutrition, personalised client support, behaviour coaching, specialist health areas and scientific research.

Clinical Nutrition Practice and Client Skills

1. Apply clinical nutrition skills to individual client needs

Apply clinical nutrition knowledge and personalisation strategies to support specialised health outcomes, including client assessment, nutrition planning, implementation and progress tracking.

2. Design and deliver structured nutrition programmes

Learn to create and deliver nutrition client programmes, structure a sequence of consultations, establish session themes and goals, conduct initial and ongoing sessions, and plan appropriate tasks for clients between appointments.

3. Develop your practical consultation skills

Strengthen your approach to client assessments, dietary planning, behaviour implementation and outcome tracking through feedback on your practical work.

4. Conduct nutrition risk assessments and recognise referral needs

Use health and nutrition risk assessments, discuss sensitive findings with clients, understand when to refer to a medical doctor or another qualified professional, and incorporate relevant biometrics and body composition measures into programme design.

5. Evaluate dietary patterns and nutritional adequacy

Assess clients’ past and current eating patterns, consider individual nutrient requirements, and develop evidence-based strategies to address nutritional insufficiencies, excesses and overall dietary adequacy.

6. Develop personalised nutrition recommendations

Create individualised dietary recommendations and work collaboratively with clients to revise nutrition plans and strategies so they can be implemented in everyday life, incorporating behaviour coaching techniques where appropriate.

7. Translate nutrition advice into everyday action

Plan practical implementation strategies, including meal planning, shopping lists, food label reading, food preparation guidance and other forms of tactical client support.

8. Monitor client progress and health outcomes

Establish appropriate tracking systems to monitor eating practices, progress towards client goals and relevant changes in health parameters, symptoms, body composition and other outcome measures.

9. Support clients with a range of health and wellbeing goals

Help clients work towards individual mental and physical health goals, which may include symptom management, weight management, stress resilience, gut and brain health, cancer risk reduction, healthy ageing, improved nutritional status and appropriate nutrient supplementation.

10. Recognise potential nutritional deficiencies and adapt plans

Identify potential nutritional deficiencies, develop and adjust personalised nutrition plans, support practical and behavioural implementation, and monitor changes in dietary practices and relevant health outcomes in cooperation with medical professionals where appropriate.

Scientific Foundations and Specialist Nutrition Knowledge

11. Understand human biology across the life cycle

Develop an understanding of molecular biology, human physiology, body systems and organs, and the role of nutrition in health and disease risk throughout life, from pregnancy and infancy through adulthood and later years.

12. Understand pathophysiology and physiological imbalances

Explore the causes and consequences of pathophysiological mechanisms, including biochemical and endocrinological imbalances relevant to health and nutrition.

13. Identify lifestyle factors that influence health

Recognise modifiable influences on health and wellbeing, including dietary and environmental factors, relationships, societal influences, attitudes and health-related practices.

14. Apply principles of lifestyle medicine

Understand the evidence and application of lifestyle medicine in clinical nutrition and medical practice, and recognise when and how to make appropriate lifestyle recommendations to support physical and mental wellbeing.
